What to do if you receive a reminder letter or notice

Pay the amount you owe within seven days and make sure any remaining instalments are paid on time.  Details on how to make payment will be shown on the back of the notice.

If you can't pay the amount within seven days, contact us to discuss the possibility of making a special payment arrangement.

Contact us within seven days if you have any questions about your account.

If you have made a claim for council tax benefit or second adult rebate, which has still to be dealt with, let us know within seven days.

Special Payment Arrangements

You could make a special payment arrangement with us if you:

  • wanted to pay your bill either weekly or fortnightly, or in more than 10 monthly instalments but not by direct debit
  • had received a letter or notice but can't bring your instalments up to date in time
  • had lost the right to pay by instalments but can't pay the full amount in time

You would have to sign an agreement form or a direct debit instruction.

Normally, an arrangement would only be agreed that made sure the account was up to date by the end of the following March at the latest.

We would only make one special payment arrangement with you in any one year unless there were exceptional circumstances.

Once a summons has been issued, we may still make a payment arrangement with you but only after completion of a Request for Information form.

What happens if payment is not made on time?
