Partnership Schemes in Conservation Areas (Northgate)

In April 2005, the Council secured funding for a two year programme of grants to help restore business and residential premises in Northgate and High Northgate between the town centre and North Road Railway Station.  This scheme supersedes the HERS grant scheme, which ceased in March 2005.

The annual budget of £200,000 is being used mainly to help owners carry out building repairs in character, re-instate architectural features and improve shop fronts.  By the end of the scheme 15 or more buildings will have been improved, and the character and appearance of this important 'gateway' into Darlington will have been lifted significantly.

A brief guide to the scheme is presented in the following brochure, which can be viewed or downloaded:

The scheme ends to grant offers on 31st March 2007 and no further applications will be accepted after this date.  Grants funds are currently still available for structural repairs, repair of period features or reinstatement of features in keeping with the historic character of this conservation area.
