Learning Difficulties and Disabilities Service
The Learning Difficulties and Disabilities Service was created to support children and young people with complex needs in mainstream schools in Darlington.
The group of pupils includes:
- those with a Statement of Special Educational Needs for Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
- those with a Statement of Special Educational Needs for Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
- any pupil with Down Syndrome
The Service
- Offers advice, support and training to schools
- Helps schools develop differentiated programmes and teaching materials to use with the pupils
- Liaises with parents/carers and any other agencies who may be involved with the pupil
- Attends annual reviews and any other relevant meetings
Liaison with Medical Staff
This group of pupils will have lifelong needs and may be accessing a range of additional services from a variety of professionals. We work with a wide range of health services as determined by the child’s needs – physiotherapists, occupational therapists, paediatricians, speech and language therapists.
