What is a Joint Area Review?

Known as JAR, for short, it is a single co-ordinated inspection of all publicly funded services for all children and young people across Darlington, including health and youth justice services.  It replaces the separate inspections of local education authorities, social services, connexions and provision for 14-19 year olds.

The JAR in Darlington will take place from the end of March 2008 for two weeks; at the same time the Council is being inspected for its Corporate Assessment, which is linked to the JAR.

The JAR will look at how our services are improving the lives of children and young people.  It will examine the leadership and management of these services and the way we work together to support children and young people to:

• Be Healthy
• Stay Safe
• Enjoy and Achieve
• Make a Positive Contribution
• Achieve Economic Well-being

These being the five outcomes that were identified in the Every Child Matters report.

If you work with children and young people the JAR will affect you.
