Branksome and Cockerton West Community Partnership are a welcoming and committed group working to make a difference to the Cockerton West Ward.
As a group they have been looking at a variety of issues alongside partners. For example, a community garden project, a community newsletter and supporting an alcohol awareness project for residents in the area. They have up until recently run a play project for the local children aged 5- 11yrs which was successful and valued by parents and families. Groundwork are now employing the play work teams across the 11 most disadvantaged wards and are leading on the play project. However the Partnership are still involved in this work.
The group works to ensure young people are welcome and the Area 1 Youth Forum regularly attend the Partnership and work on joint projects with the group. Currently lights for the MUGA at Branksome are now on for evening use of the facilities, great for the young people that want to use the area safely and properly.
PACT (Partners and Communities Together) at the Partnership meetings gives residents a chance to share their views on the issues they have in the ward and the police and other agencies are able to feedback what is happening with their work. Please come along and have your say on what you think are the issues they should be dealing with.
Morvyn Sanderson is the Community Worker for the area please feel free to contact her for any further information or discussion 01325 388457 or email morvyn.sanderson@darlington.gov.uk
The group have an action plan [pdf document] to tackle the problems and issues they feel are important. This is available for people to look at and we review it regularly to prioritise what we feel is important. We are keen to get more people’s input so please contribute any ideas you have.
