The role of the Community Development Workers is to help and empower local communities to tackle local issues in priority areas and help the Community Partnership volunteers deliver the action plans. The role of the Community Development Worker is one of support and capacity building. We are here to engage volunteers, help them to access training and learn new skills. If we can’t help, then we tend to know someone who can!

The Community Development Workers work within the National Occupational Standards for Community Development Work. The Standards outline the Values and Practice Principles required for Community Development Work.
The Values are:

The Practice Principles are:
- Develop working relationships with communities and organisations
- Encourage people to work and learn from each other
- Work with people in communities to plan for change and take collective action
- Work with people in communities to develop and use Frameworks for Evaluation
- Develop community organisations
- Reflect on and develop own practice and role
