Lascelles Community Partnership Logo

Lascelles Community Partnership is made up of local people, groups and organisations in the area and has been working together since November 2004. We are a friendly group who welcome new members to any of our meetings and events, and are working hard to improve things for the benefit of everyone who lives and works in Lascelles. We have developed an Action Plan that sets out our ideas for positive changes and developments in the area, and you are welcome to take a look at the plan and give us your views.

Things to celebrate in Lascelles

Kick Wall on Lascelles Green

After over a year of meetings, local consultations and lots of hard work from members of the Lascelles Partnership, the Residents Association, the young Caretakers and Groundwork, Lascelles has finally seen a Kick Wall installed on the green space behind the local shops. The chosen design offers young people the chance to play football, basketball, cricket and netball against the hard wearing, coated metal mesh area.

The wall was officially opened by members of the St John’s school council, local Councillors from Lascelles and the ‘Darlington Dog’ mascot from Darlington Football Club. It seems to be very popular addition to the local play and recreation facilities and has been in constant use since December 2007. During 2008 the footpaths across the green will be extended and new lighting will be installed to improve drainage and safety in the area.

Open Spaces Meetings

Local people from both the Lascelles and Bank Top Partnerships have been holding regular meetings with Groundwork to share ideas and resources for the green areas of Lascelles and Eastbourne Park, which are closely linked by shared footpaths. Extra play equipment from the park has been donated to Lascelles as part of this joint initiative and will be installed in the play area opposite St John’s School later this year. The group are also looking at future ideas for fencing, seating, lighting and kissing gates with the help of landscape architects and planners. All meetings are open to anyone within the Lascelles or Bank Top Partnership areas. Please contact Lisa at Groundwork on (01325)353791 for details of the next meeting.

Lascelles Walking Group

This local walking group was set up during 2007 by local Councillor Wendy Newall and Christine Dickinson, after under going walk leader training. Last summer’s heavy rainfall meant that the planned walks for July and August had to be cancelled, but they are busy planning a new programme of varied and interesting local walks in and around Darlington for 2008. Anyone who would like further information about the walks please contact Wendy on (01325) 251574 or Christine on (01325) 354228

Dodmire Children’s Centre, Rydal Road

The Children’s Centre is attached to Dodmire Infant & Nursery School in Rydal Road and has been very successful in working with parents and children under the age of 5 years old. The Centre includes staff from lots of different Health and Education services working together for the benefit of local families and there are lots of different projects and activities going on.

Rosemary Court Extra Care Scheme, Fenby Avenue

After over a year of hard work and lots of building activity, the new Extra Care Housing Scheme at Rosemary Court was finally opened in October 2007. The new facility offers older people in the area a new type of housing development with 42 flats with an on-site warden, a comfortable sitting room on each of the three floors, a lunchtime dining room, a small hairdressing salon, a hobbies and activities room and a small corner shop. The scheme is being run jointly between the Borough Council and Hannover Housing and offers tenants the chance of healthcare if needed together with daytime activities and social evenings.
