Arts Award

What is the Arts Award?

Arts Award is a new national qualification that supports young artists and young arts leaders and leads to qualifications at level 1, 2 and 3 of the national qualifications framework.

This award is a personal learning programme that develops and assesses both arts-related skills (arts knowledge and understanding) and transferable skills (creativity, communication, planning and review, teamwork and leadership).

How do I take part in the Arts Award?

Darlington Arts Centre offers the Arts Award to young people who attend ArtsSpark Youth Theatre or Dance, and young people who are members of the ArtsSpark Membership Scheme. If you're aged 11 to 25, and enjoy the arts...then the Arts Award is for you!  You can choose your art form and make your own plans, including improving your skills, seeing the work of other artists and running your own arts project. You'll share your work with other people by recording what you do. It's up to you how you do that - writing, photos, video, sound recording, website...

Is there a time limit to the Arts Award?

There is no time limit to the award. You need to make it challenging but realistic and decide how long you want to take. You'll have an Arts Award adviser to support you. They won't tell you what to do, but will help you plan and work through the award. They can answer your questions and give you advice.

How much does it cost to do the Arts Award?

The Arts Centre charges £15 in order to take the Arts Award. This includes the cost of your Arts Award pack, which will guide you through the qualification, and your moderation fee.

Who will help me achieve the Arts Award?

At Darlington Arts Centre there are two trained Arts Award advisors, who will be responsible for providing help and guidance to young people so they can complete their Arts Award qualification:

  • Bonnie Davies - Education and Outreach Officer
  • Lyndsey Middleton - Assistant Performing Arts Officer

The Arts Award is currently offered through drop-in sessions at Darlington Arts Centre. Watch this space for dates and times of drop in sessions!
