Ever-popular course that is open to all abilities.  Learn coil or slab pottery, or have a spin at the wheen.  This course can get messy, so old clothes and an apron are recommended.

With the help of ceramics specialist and course tutor Shelia Plews, you will work with different types of clay and learn technical skills such as coil and slab building and working with brush-on glazes.  In a friendly and relaxed environment you will be able to choose what you would like to create and the pace at which you work.  The course caters for all abilities and Shelia is keen to see everyone on the course produce something they can take real pride in.  A beginner to the course may want to start on something relatively simple such as a pinch-pot before progressing to something more elaborate but whatever you choose to make the most important aspect to Shelia is that you enjoy making it.

Another key benefit of the course, Shelia says, is that “you’ll get your work back very quickly.”  Therefore you will be able to see and touch the results of your work as you progress.  Naturally, working with clay can get messy so old clothes are recommended but if you’re willing to get your hands dirty this class offers the chance to work within a skilful and truly ancient art-form.  As Shelia explains “the pieces people make are very personal to them.  They’ve made it and, as long as they don’t drop it, it could last for thousands of years.”
