Asana improves the flexibility and strength of the body. Its practice also calms the mind and improves the ability to relax. The breathing, relaxation and concentration techniques enable students to achieve a sense of well being. Tricia hopes that her students achieve this sense of well being within her classes along with the knowledge and experience to improve their physical and emotional condition through home practice.
A class lasts one hour and thirty minutes. It involves breathing practice, followed by a limbering session leading to chosen Asana postures ensuring the spine and principle joints are put through their full range of movement. A class would then finish with fifteen minutes of relaxation and concentration techniques.
Tutor Tricia Wilson is a British Wheel of Yoga qualified teacher. Established in 1965, the British Wheel of Yoga is the largest yoga organization in the UK and has been registered as a charity for more than thirty years.
Tricia says “The classes are friendly and animated. The students are encouraged to ask questions and suggest particular postures that they would like to work on. My own experience of practicing yoga Asana has led me to use, in my own practice, many items to help develop physical strength and flexibility and to support the body, encouraging correct alignment. They include chairs, blocks, belts and blankets. I have found these greatly beneficial and like to share this with my students.”
