This new class offers a creative approach to weaving, using yarn in a painterly way. On simple wooden frames images can be built up on the warp threads, very much like painting, creating images that have a flat finished look. A typical class will see you setting up the looms, learning about materials whilst discussing the design and aesthetics of the piece. If you are an artist you can even bring in a painting and use this as the basis for your weaving.
Course tutor Becky Sunter is a textile artist and designer specializing in woolen fibre. She studied craft design at Cumbria College of Art and design, where she learnt the craft of weaving, from rugs to fine fabrics. She has knowledge of traditional techniques alongside a keen interest in contemporary textiles.
Becky is keen for the class to be based around enjoyment and for students to work at their own pace. This engaging and innovative course is suitable for beginners as well as experienced weavers looking for a slightly less technical class. Yarn and equipment is supplied and you’ll come away from the class with a unique piece of work.
