Be illuminated and learn the skills of decorative glass work in this friendly and relaxed class. Make anything from a circular light catcher to full door and window panels as your skills progress. Suitable for most ages and levels, this popular and enjoyable course gives you the opportunity to create a piece of work to be proud of.
Under the guidance of professional stained glass artist Simon Fitton, you will learn techniques such as glass cutting, soldering and lead work. Within a warm and inclusive atmosphere, students are encouraged to work at their own pace whilst encouraging and inspiring others.
Simon, a professional stained glass artist who has worked at The Arts Centre for over twelve years and has his own studio here, ensures that students work under no pressure. As he says “the course is structured around what you want to do … it is not something you learn overnight but skills develop as confidence develops.” A typical class may see Simon demonstrating a technique before setting you off to have a go yourself. In the past, students have crafted decorative mirrors, windows, lampshades, mosaics, garden ornaments and even Christmas decorations. The Art Centre provides basic materials though further materials may be required depending on the scale of the work. Participants will also need a 75 watt soldering iron but we advise you to confirm your place on the course before purchasing any equipment.
