Tai Chi

Woman doing Tai Chi

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese form of coordinated body movements focusing on the cultivation of internal energy (Chi). Its aim is to harmonize the mind, body and spirit, promoting mental and physical well being. When practiced correctly, the movements of Tai Chi appear rhythmical, effortless and in continuous flow. Through such practice the student becomes revitalized, stronger and healthier in mind and body.

Tutor Mike Watson has studied Tai Chi for over thirteen years. Before teaching Tai Chi he instructed in external martial arts and moved on to Tai Chi as he felt it ‘achieved the same goal from a different angle.’ He is a qualified Tai Chi instructor and studies under Master John Ding, an international master who is based at the John Ding International Academy in London.

A typical class will see Mike give an introduction to the fundamentals of Tai Chi. You’ll work on a series of warm-up exercises, body alignment and footwork, meditation and breathing and receive step by step form instruction. Mike hopes that students will come away from the class feeling more relaxed, flexible and with better balance, basic self defence skills, focus, coordination and awareness.

With just fifteen minutes of daily practice substantial health benefits and wellbeing can be gained by practitioners. Tai Chi has been shown to improve posture, manage stress, allow you to sleep more soundly, increase energy and lower blood pressure.

In a relaxed yet focused atmosphere, you’ll meet new people, improve your health and learn an ancient discipline.
