Weaving on wooden frames, four shaft floor and table looms. Come and have a go - all abilities are welcome. Advice on any materials you may need will be given in the first class.
There are many different aspects to weaving; it can be a simple texture or a complicated structure. The finished product could be a lightweight cloth or a heavy rug. This course will introduce you to these aspects whilst discovering different fabrics, the qualities of individual fibres and yarns. You may want to then use these skills to weave a simple scarf, tea towel, throw, try rug weaving or make a pictorial tapestry.
Course tutor Becky Sunter is a textile artist and designer specializing in woolen fibre. She studied craft design at Cumbria College of Art and design, where she learnt the craft of weaving, from rugs to fine fabrics. She likes to include other skills in her work such as felting, knitting and dying and as well as tutoring she continues to produce her own work and sells locally in Darlington.
This is an informal and very friendly group, from complete beginners through to experienced weavers. If you catch the weaving bug, you’ll be able to access the room throughout the week.
