Women's Writing

Drawing of a pen

This sociable class gives you the chance to explore and develop your writing voice in a supportive environment. Suitable for writers of some experience, you’ll receive advice and constructive feedback from a published and award-winning writer and be able to share your work with others.

Under the guidance of course tutor and respected poet Joanna Boulter, you’ll study different styles of writing and gain inspiration by discussing a variety of poets and authors. The class is primarily based around poetry and prose or whichever genre you prefer. However you choose to work, Joanna is keen that you develop confidence in yourself and your ability. “Writers,’ she says, “need to work with other writers as it can be very solitary. Every opinion is worthwhile and there is no right or wrong.”

Joanna, a former Orbis magazine poet of the year, member of Vane Women and co-founder of Arrowhead Press, has seen past students go on to study creative writing at University, have pamphlets of poetry published and read their work at literature events. The most important aspect of this unique class, however, is, as Joanna says, that it “enables women to have a proper voice in the writing arena. I want them to feel that it isn’t beyond them and I want them to enjoy it.”
