Emergence showcases works from a series of recent work by Michael Steele, including portraiture, still life and landscapes. Michael is a local artist, who works in the Arts Studio in Sunderland, as well as a studio in Durham.
His work has previously been focused on the subject of portraiture. He does not use models, rather he draws upon influence drawn from dreams and visions, using colour to set a mood, and line to capture his visions and turn them into something colic, crisp and clear.
More recently he has been working on works drawn more realistically from the visions and dreams that previously inspired his portraiture. In addition he has been exploring still life subjects, and landscape. As before, all inspiration for these works comes from within, and is not copied or drawn from life.
