North Bank of the River Tees at Low Coniscliffe, Darlington
River creates a window onto the moving surface of the river, and focuses on the evocative nature of being close to the water. This elegant sculpture lies between the footpath and river on the north bank becoming an entrance onto the river by inviting people to turn from the main footpath into its narrow centre, and opening out onto the water. A long curved seat is integrated to the left following the winding contour of the sculpture, from which a clear view of the river can be seen through an opening in the dense canopy. River spans approximately 11 metres and is made from elm, beautifully complimenting the surrounding environment.
