Application Procedure for the Lounge Gallery

The Lounge Gallery

· Artists and community groups wishing to exhibit at Darlington Arts Centre should send the Visual and Public Arts

Officer an exhibition proposal including the following:

                   1. A short outline of what media the artwork is e.g. photography,  print, drawing, installation

                       etc.

                   2. Some quality JPEG images or photographs of the artworks.

                   3. A clear exhibition statement including the exhibition title and the themes, inspiration and

                       techniques used in the exhibition.

· If the exhibition is short-listed a meeting will be arranged with the Visual and Public Arts Officer to

discuss the possibility of an exhibition.

· The artist(s)/ community group will then be contacted by letter to inform them of whether the application

has been accepted. If the artwork is not accepted then all CDs and supporting information will only be

returned with the letter if a paid postage, addressed envelope is included with the exhibition application.

· Priority will be given to artists and groups that demonstrate exciting and innovative artwork.

· All artwork must be original and must not have been exhibited in this venue   before.

· Exhibitions are between 4 – 6 weeks.

· All artwork must be fit for exhibition e.g. framed and centrally mirror-plated.  The artist must take

personal responsibility if artwork is to be hung using alternative fixings. The venue recommends that

frames are of professional exhibition standard e.g. solid wood. If exhibitors wish to use

alternative frames then this is the responsibility of the exhibitor. The Arts Centre Technical Team can

  offer advice on this matter.

· The venue cannot take responsibility for damage to artwork that is not professionally framed using solid

  wood frames.

· It is the responsibility of the exhibitor(s) to deliver the artwork to the venue.

· All exhibitions will be curated by the Visual and Public Arts Officer and the Visual Arts Technicians will

  hang the artworks.

· Please provide the value in pounds sterling of the exhibition as a whole for our insurance department at

least 6 weeks prior to your exhibition installation date.

· If exhibitors wish to organize a preview, this must be co-ordinated with the Arts Centre Duty Managers

and Visual and Public Arts Officer at least 3 weeks before the exhibition and should be held between

  12 noon-2pm or 6-8pm.

· Artists may also attach a storage holder to the wall (where suitable and agreed by the technicians) in

which to place their business cards and postcards.

· The exhibitors must provide a short paragraph and an electronic image of their work 8 weeks before

the exhibition begin so the exhibition can be promoted on our website www.darlingtonarts.co.uk.

· The day after the exhibition is finished all artwork must be collected from the venue promptly at an

agreed time as there is no facility for storing artwork.

· If the exhibition is a selling exhibition the Arts Centre will take 20% commission on all sales + VAT (VAT

is chargeable on the commission only).
