Sport and Physical Activity Facilities Strategy and Playing Pitch Strategy
Consultants PMP has been appointed by Darlington Borough Council to produce a Sport and Physical Activity Facilities Strategy and Playing Pitch Strategy which will help to support the development of community sport and physical activity in Darlington.
The studies include an assessment of need, use, accessibility, and quantity and quality of existing provision for a range of indoor and outdoor sports facilities. Having consulted with a variety of clubs, groups and facility users, they have produced 'draft' strategies. These strategies can be downloaded by clicking the links below.

Extra Funding to Get People Active
From 1 April 2009 residents are set to be given the chance to join in a wide range of sport and physical activities, thanks to funding from the Council and Darlington Primary Care Trust (NHS Darlington).
The initiative is a key part of plans to leave a lasting legacy from London 2012, giving people up and down the country more opportunities to get active.
Miriam Davison, Darlington’s Director of Public Health said:
“The national strategy, Healthy Weight, Healthy Lives, includes the priorities of promoting children’s health, promoting healthy food and building physical activity in to our lives. The programmes are designed to appeal to a broad range of people across Darlington."
Free Swimming for Over 60s
The Council has signed up to the Government’s scheme to provide free swimming for over-60s for the next two years. Proof of eligibility will be required.
Under 26 Free Theatre Tickets - A Night Less Ordinary
A Night Less Ordinary is an Arts Council England scheme in association with Metro, which will provide 618,000 free theatre tickets to anyone under 26 in more than 200 venues across England. For more information see our Arts Page.
