Darlington Borough Council is thrilled to announce its first ever Food Festival, which will take place on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 October in the Market Square, between 10am and 5pm.
This fantastic two-day event will consist of around 100 stalls with a food marquee and restaurant and pub promotions and tastings. The event will also feature a demonstration kitchen, offering the chance for the public to see the production and preparation of the very best of local produce, including the opportunity to purchase an array of fabulous food and drink. There will be something for everyone, with local produce to sample alongside food from around the world. Entertainment will be provided, with a range of bands and street theatre artists to perform at the festival.
Darlington Food Festival 2008 will begin an exciting new phase of development within Darlington’s markets, focusing in particular on the raising the profile of marketplace events, and the quality and array of produce available to consumers. The Festival will also provide local food producers and catering businesses the opportunity to network and expand their connections within the regional food industry.
Darlington is uniquely located within the North East to attract visitors from around the region, leading to the development of the town as a popular tourist destination. Darlington Food Festival 2008 will spearhead this move towards a strong local retail offer that will encourage repeat visits.
The Festival will take place during the British Food Fortnight (20 September – 5 October), linking Darlington to a host of towns around the country that are involved in celebrating the production of great food in Britain.
