Here you will find a number of questions people have asked about Darlington markets. If you would like to know more information or have any other questions, please contact the Markets office by email: markets@darlington.gov.uk or telephone: 01325 388691
1. Is there a mailing list I could join, so details of the markets are sent directly to my inbox or mobile phone?
There is no mailing list set up yet, but all markets are listed on the Council’s website and emails can be sent direct to the markets office: markets@darlington.gov.uk
2. What times are the markets open? Are some open later or earlier than others?
The covered market operates 6 days a week from 8am until 5pm. Generally open markets trade between 9am until 5pm. Speciality events such as the Christingle markets trade between 1pm and 8pm in line with town centre late night shopping.
3. I want to organise a table top sale at my child’s school – who do l contact to get permission?
By email to markets@darlington.gov.uk or tel 01325 388691 or fax 01325 388555. You can also call in to our office at 10 Houndgate DL1 5RF
4. I make handmade greetings cards and would like to enquire about setting up a stall – who can help me to get started?
There are special craft markets for these types of goods, generally operating on the 2nd Friday in each month. We are always looking out for traders who can provide a unique, high quality line because they add diversity and interest. Contacts are as above.
5. My charity is very interested in taking up a free stall on the open market – can you please give me more information?
Any non profit making organisation i.e. schools, churches, volunteer groups can have a stall on the Saturday or Monday open markets free of charge. The benefits include an increase in public awareness and sales revenue on the day.
6. If I want to get in touch with a particular market stall, how can I go about this? Can I contact them directly or do I go through the markets office?
Their listing on the Towntalk website may detail their number but many do not have a phone connection at their stall. The markets office cannot give out personal details but can pass on messages to traders.
7. I want to get my child a summer job at the market – can you arrange this for me?
NO, a direct approach must be made to the trader(s) but please bear in mind that there are certain age restrictions within employment legislation.
