A Casual Vacancy has arisen in the North Road Ward. Should the election be contested, a bye-election, for the vacancy, will be held on Thursday, 13th November, 2008, and polling hours will be from 7.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m.

Darlington Borough Council has 53 Councillors, each representing one of the Council’s 24 wards. Councillors are elected to serve for a four-year term of office, however, Councillors who are elected to a casual vacancy, serve the remaining term of office.
Councillors are accountable to residents of their ward, although their over-riding duty is to the whole community, including those who did not vote for them.
