Political Management

The Council is made up of 18 Conservative, 29 Labour, 5 Liberal Democrat and 1 Independent Member.

The Council has adopted a Cabinet/Leader model. Under these arrangements, full council establishes the authority's budget and policy framework. An executive Cabinet of 9 members is responsible for decision making. There are five Scrutiny Committees to review the policy and performance of the Council and of other agencies operating in Darlington and two principal Committees to deal with the statutory functions of Licensing and Planning Applications.

Further information concerning Councillors and the Committee structure and public access to meetings can be obtained from the Democratic Services Unit during normal office hours 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays and 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Fridays on (01325) 388351 or e-mail democratic@darlington.gov.uk.  All meetings are open to the public and the pubilc are welcome to attend.  Although there is no restriction on the number of people attending meetings there is only limited space available in each of the rooms.
