Cockerton Library

Hello and welcome to Cockerton Library.

Since opening its doors in September 1970 Cockerton Library has become very much part of the local community. Situated on the outskirts of Darlington in the west end, it is easily accessible by local transport, car and on foot. The building itself won an architectural award for its unusual saw tooth shape and wonderful wooden ceiling which is its main internal feature. We stock a full range of adult and children's fiction, non-fiction material including large print and books on tape for the partially sighted readers as well as a CD music collection.

The friendly staff will help you find information, select a good read or some easy listening from our CD collection. The Library is accessible to people with disabilities, and we are happy to give you any help you may need, disabled parking is available at the rear of the library.

Internet access has proved really popular since its introduction to Cockerton Library, both as a supplement to book information and as a source of entertainment. The first half an hour of internet access is free.

Children are always welcome at the library which has a wide range of books and tapes to suit everyone from the very young to teenagers and young adults. Regular visits from local schools encourage use and involvement with the library and foster a lifelong love of reading. Activities & competitions for children are run during the holidays including the summer reading scheme.
