Reference Library

With a stock of more than 26,000 items the reference library handles over 44,00 enquiries per year on a wide variety of topics. Expert staff are available to assist users and deal with enquiries received in person, by post, e-mail or by telephone.

An extensive collection of reference material includes books, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, guidebooks, leaflets and online databases, covering the whole spectrum of human knowledge.  Many national newspapers are taken and kept for a year and local newspapers are kept permanently.

Other services include a coin-operated photocopier and a fax facility (see below for number)which can be used to send and receive. We can also book your tickets for Darlington Civic Theatre.

Our Community Information database provides information on local, regional and some national organisations and societies as well as other services and facilities. Internet and e-mail facilities are also available in the Reference Library. Booking is advisable, and this service may be used by accompanied children as well as adult members. The first half hour is free (limited to one session per day).
