The Council has progressive plans to protect and improve Darlington's environment and natural heritage. Schemes include Boroughwide recycling, encouragement for natural habitats and species, including Britain's rarest native tree, the Black Poplar; successful home composting campaigns, the installation of solar powered parking meters and bus shelters and regular Farmer's markets.
