If the land is not Council owned how can I find out who owns it?
If the land is not Council owned we have no information on it. You will need to contact the Land Registry [external link] in Durham on 0844 8921111, or write to Durham Land Registry, Southfield House, Southfield Way, Durham DH1 5TR.
Does the Council have any land or properties for sale or to let?
The Council has a limited portfolio but to see if any are available please contact the Estates Team on 01325 388735/388737 or email estatesandpropertyenquiries@darlington.gov.uk.

I want to buy the open land next to my house.
It is often assumed that because land is maintained by the Council we own it, but this is not always the case. Firstly, please verify that the land is council-owned (see Council Land Maps). If it is, then please write to the Estates & Property Manager, Town Hall, Darlington, DL1 5QT with a plan showing the area in question and detailing what you propose to use the land for.
