In December 2006 Darlington achieved Fairtrade Town status.
This means.......
- A resolution has been passed by Darlington Borough Council supporting the Fairtrade Town bid and therefore in supporting Fairtrade. Fairtrade tea and coffee are now available within the Council for meetings and at the Council’s civic buildings such as the Stressholme Golf Club, the Dolphin Centre, the Civic Theatre and the Arts Centre.
- Fairtrade products are readily available in a number of retail outlets and are served in catering establishments.
- Many of Darlington’s Churches and Schools are actively involved in promoting Fairtrade. Many local businesses use Fairtrade products in their every day operation.
- There is an ongoing awareness raising campaign and support for the Fairtrade is growing.
Even though Fairtrade Town status has been achieved, the hard work does not stop there.
Becoming a Fairtrade Town needs the support of everyone in Darlington. We need the People of Darlington to be involved!
Who’s involved?
A Fairtrade Steering Group has been set up in Darlington to ensure continued commitment to achieving Fairtrade Town status and support to the Fairtrade Foundation’s goal of tackling poverty.
