Fairtrade Schools

Visit the Young Co-operatives website for more information about Fairtrade

Teaching about Fairtrade fits in well with the modern curriculum.  Subjects such as Geography, Religious Studies and Citizenship are all ideal subjects to begin discussing the issues surrounding Fairtrade. For further information visit the Fairtrade Website  or contact Paula Jamieson on paula.jamieson@darlington.gov.uk.

To become Fairtrade Friendly, schools can:

  • Have Fairtrade staff “brew groups”
  • Provide Fairtrade juice machines
  • Provide Fairtrade fruit
  • Hold a Fairtrade assembly
  • Incorporate Fairtrade into lesson plans
  • Set up a young co-operative scheme to run a Fairtrade tuck-shop
  • Use Fairtrade tea and coffee exclusively at school meetings
  • Pass a Fairtrade resolution at a school governors meeting
  • Have an occasional Fairtrade stall for school events

Once you have achieved two or more of these goals please contact paula.jamieson@darlington.gov.uk and you can become a Fairtrade Friendly School.
