Anyone can inspect public registers held by Darlington Borough Council.
The public registers that can be looked at are the Local Land Charges Register, the Planning Register, the Register of Enforcement Notices, Common Land and Village Green Register (which are all held by Local Land Charges), Stop Notices (held by Planning), Tree Preservation Orders (Planning) and Contaminated Land (Environmental Health). Details of the locations where the registers can be viewed and the contact details are set out below.
To look at the registers held by Local Land Charges a prior appointment must be made. Appointments to see registers that are held by Local Land Charges can be made for any time between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday provided that 24 hours notice is given and that there are adequate staffing levels. When making the appointment you will need to give your name or name of company and the address of the search. You will also need to provide a site plan which can be faxed to us on the fax number provided below.
Appointments for Planning and Local Land Charges Registers are carried out in the main Customer Services Reception (the glass building to the right of the Town Hall entrance). There is a ticket system. You should pay the relevant fee to the receptionist who will issue you with a receipt. You will be given the information and directed to a desk. It is your responsibility to take details of any applicable entries on the register.
If you wish to visit any other public register held by the Council then you will have to telephone the appropriate phone number relating the register that you wish to see and make an arrangement to view the register. The locations where the registers are held and the contact details are set out below.

Note : The Council is not obliged to answer any supplementary or additional enquiries when a personal search is being made. If additional information is required, then an application should be made by submitting the usual written application, i.e. the LLC1 and CON29R form which will be dealt with in 3 - 5 working days. If you are in a hurry an expedited search service is available.
