14/05/08 RECYCLE NOW ROADSHOW

AN unusual doctor will be raking through residents’ rubbish at the annual Recycle Now Roadshow.

As part of the Council’s Making Waste Work campaign, Dr Bin will be on hand at the event to advise shoppers about what they throw away.

Making Waste Work aims to encourage everyone in Darlington to reduce, reduce and recycle their rubbish in a bid to cut the amount of waste sent to landfill.

The Council’s Recycling Officer Phillippa Scrafton will be taking on the role of Dr Bin in the Market Place on Monday June 2 from 10am until 3pm.

There will also be energy saving tips and give-aways from Tees And Durham Energy Advice and representatives from the Waste Resources Action Programme will be on hand to talk about composting.

Darlington-based Melting Pot Arts will be holding a junk music workshop and there will also be a chance to find out about the Council’s real nappy initiative.

Street Scene Man will also be making an appearance to encourage visitors to think about their local environment and Groundwork will be trying to sign up more volunteers as Street Champions.

Nick Wallis, Darlington Council’s Cabinet Member for Sustainable Environment and Climate Change, said: “The Recycle Now Roadshow is a great opportunity for people to find out how they can make a difference to their local environment.

”If we all make small changes to our lifestyle we can make a real difference to the future of the planet.”
