Garden waste

If you want to dispose of garden waste the Council provides a service to assist you. However, if you have your own transport you can take your garden waste to the Household Waste Recycling Centre at Whessoe Road.

Ideally you can help reduce the costs and the environmental problems by reducing the amount of garden waste you dispose of by composting your garden waste at home.  This not only reduces pollution but gives you a useable end product for your own garden.

Home composting is easier than you think, click here for details on obtaining a composting bin and a step by step guide to home composting

Garden waste collection

To qualify for a collection for your garden waste you need to buy a special garden waste bag.

The special bags cost £6.90
and are available from: The Arts Centre, The Dolphin Centre, Town Hall and Neighbourhood Houses (Firthmoor, Branksome, Redhall and Skerne Park)

The bag entitles you to one collection of up to 10 bags of garden waste or bundles of branches (you need to provide the extra bags yourself - black bin bags are best).  If you buy two bags, this will entitle you to collection of 20 bags or bundles of branches.

When you buy a bag you will be given a receipt, please keep this safe and if possible, write the receipt number on the garden waste bag.

Once you have the bag, telephone Customer Services on 01325 388777 quoting your receipt number to arrange collection.

Remember:-

  • You must have one special garden waste sack for each collection
  • Stones, soil and concrete will not be collected with garden waste
  • Do not put garden waste out with normal household waste as it will not be collected;
  • Your garden waste bag is valuable so look after it.  Write your address and recipt number on it or identify it in some way and only put it out on the arranged day of collection.
