MyDarlington+ FAQ

We have created this FAQ to help you answer some of the questions you may have about MyDarlington+. We hope to add to it over time.

Bookmarks

I want to bookmark a page, but the button isn't there

Some pages currently can't be bookmarked - this is because they use a slightly different template which doesn't allow us to add a button. We are working on making sure that all pages will have a button in the future.

Change of Address

I have changed my address since using MyDarlington+. How can I update my account?

You can update your postcode by signing into MyDarlington+ and entering a new postcode in the box on the far-left hand side of the page. Click go and the postcode-specific information on your page will update automatically.

If you have registered a council tax or housing rent account with MyDarlington+ this number will change when you move and you will have to submit a new council tax/housing tax reference number. Click the delete button next to your details and select the click here to register to view... link.

You do not need to create a new MyDarlington+ account if your address details change.

Council Tax and Housing Rents

My council tax/housing rents have not been approved yet...

If your council tax/housing rents are not approved straightaway, we will need to approve them manually. This means we will need to ask someone with access to our council tax or housing rents system to verify your details. This can be a lengthy process and we ask for you to wait for a maximum of five working days (although we will try and get your details approved before that if we can.)

If you have waited for more than five working days then it is likely that your details have been rejected. We will reject your details if they do not match the information on our council tax or housing rents system.

We normally do not contact users if their details have been rejected, unless there are special circumstances or we need to clarify something.

If your contact details have been rejected then you may want to get in touch with the relevant department to check that your details are correct on the system.

Council Tax -  telephone Revenue Queries on 01325 388373 or email revenue.queries@darlington.gov.uk with your Council Tax number.

Housing Rents - telephone Customer Services on 01325 388542 or email customerservices@darlington.gov.uk with your Housing Rents number.

It may also be worth checking to make sure that you have taken the last digit off your council tax/housing rents number - if this isn't done then it can cause MyDarlington+ to reject the application. If this is the case, reapply and MyDarlington+ should accept it.

I have checked my balance and it is incorrect

Our payment system updates between 7:40-8:20am in the morning, so if you make a payment, it may not update on MyDarlington+ until the next day.

If you think your payment has still not updated, then email mydarlington@darlington.gov.uk with your username and council tax/housing rents number and we will investigate.

Events Feed

Why isn't a particular event featured in my event update/on the events feed?

Firstly, we would recommend checking that you have the event category that the event features under checked on your MyDarlington+ account. Information regarding how to do that is available on our events feed page.

There may be circumstances where an event that you know is on does not feature within the feed. MyDarlington+ is still a very recent system and we are still trying to aggregate all Council events into it. We can't guarantee that all events will feature within the feed at this moment in time, although we are working on including as many events as we can by liaising with the relevant departments.

Can you give me more information about an event?

If there is a link included with an event description, clicking on the link will take you to a page with more information about the event. Alternatively, there may be a phone number or an email address you can contact. Unfortunately, as we put the events into MyDarlington+ on behalf of other departments, we cannot give you any further information about a particular event.

eServices

Why can't I sign up for eServices anymore?

eServices has now been discontinued - you will no longer be able to login or register to use it.

If you had planning email notifications sent to you, you will no longer receive these. You can still search for planning notifications through My Services Planning.

Layout

The layout of MyDarlington+ looks strange

This may be down to the browser and screen resolution you are using.

MyDarlington+ is best viewed when your computer is set up in the following way;

  • The latest versions of the main web browsers (Internet Explorer v8, Firefox v3.6, Chrome v4, Safari v4) are being used.
  • There is a screen resolution of at least 1280x1024
  • The "Favourites" or "Bookmark" panel on your browser is not being displayed

Planning

Can I still access my Planning Application subscriptions with MyDarlington+?

The planning applications system will not have a direct link to MyDarlington+ in the same way that eServices did.

You will be able to view and search planning applications through My Services Planning, but you will not be able to have notifications emailed to you automatically.

Recycling/Refuse information

My Recycling/Refuse information isn't showing up!

Firstly, check to make sure you have entered a postcode.

If this doesn't work, you may have entered a postcode for an area which doesn't have domestic refuse/recycling collections (for example, an industrial estate)

If you think the information is still wrong, contact mydarlington@darlington.gov.uk with your details and we will look into it.

Registering/Signing in

I am trying to register and MyDarlington+ won't accept my password

Passwords must contain:

  • A minimum of five letters
  • A minimum of one number
  • A capital letter (or a special character such as @ ! or ?)

Otherwise MyDarlington+ won't accept them. Clear your password from the box and try another password.

My account has been locked out

Your account is locked out when you enter an incorrect password more than five times in a row. You can request a new password by going to Reset my MyDarlington+ password and entering your email address. You may want to check your junk mail/spam folder to make sure the email hasn't appeared in there.

Entering this password will reactivate your account.

I have forgotten my password

If you have forgotten your password, click the forgotten your password? link which is on the logging in screen. If you enter your email address then you will be emailed a new password.

If you haven't received an email, you may want to check your junk mail/spam folder to make sure the email hasn't appeared in there.

I have forgotten my username

If you have forgotten your username, please email mydarlington@darlington.gov.uk from the email address you used to sign into your account (we do not need to know your password). We will then be able to let you know what your username is.

Why is the password I requested so long and obscure?

When you request a new password, the new password we email out to you is very long and contains lots of special characters. It has been automatically generated and is deliberately obscure in order to ensure that nobody will be able to guess it. It may be easier to cut and paste it rather than trying to type it in.

If you do wish to type it in manually, it is worth noting that the password is case sensitive

When you have used your new password to log into MyDarlington+, you can change it to something more memorable by clicking on the 'click to edit your profile' link on the left. You will be asked to confirm your existing password.

When I try and access MyDarlington+ I get a pop-up box which says 'this webpage contains content that will not be delivered using a secure HTTPS connection, which could compromise the security of the webpage'.

Certain aspects of MyDarlington+ (for example, your details (Council Tax, Housing Rents) have to be viewed through our secure server (this is when you go to a webpage and see 'https' before a weblink instead of 'http'), however, the Google Map and the Twitter feed are delivered over a normal http connection.  Choosing to not display unsecured data will block the Google Map and Twitter feed from appearing in MD+.

The warning message you are seeing can happen when web users try and view MyDarlington+ using Internet Explorer.

As an alternative, you may wish to use a different browser to view MyDarlington+.

If you are still having problems, email mydarlington@darlington.gov.uk with the following information.

  • Your username if you have a MyDarlington+ account (we do not need your password)
  • Your council tax/housing rents number (if appropriate)
  • What internet browser you use and your screen resolution (if you know what it is)
  • Details of any error messages you are getting
  • Details of how you are accessing MyDarlington+ (what are you clicking in order to get to the issue you are having?)
  • Any screenshots of the problem would also be of use to us.
