FAMILY CYCLE RIDE THIS WEEEKEND

31/03/05 - Local people are invited to take part in a free family cycle ride this Sunday as part of Darlington's Town on the Move initiative.

The ride, led by trained Town on the Move cycle leaders, is a two-hour, easy-going ride for families along Darlington's network of cycle paths, green areas and quieter roads of the town. The ride starts at the Dolphin Centre in Darlington town centre at 10am this Sunday, 3 April 2005.

This weekend's family cycle ride is one of a series of cycle events taking place over the coming months as part of the Pedal Power programme organised by the Council's Town on the Move team. Town on the Move, Darlington's £3.24 million Department for Transport funded transport initiative aims to get local people moving by bike, public transport, walking or car sharing.

Forthcoming local rides in the Pedal Power programme include an evening ride to Walworth Gate, a cycle treasure trail, a pupils and parents schools ride and a cycle treasure trail. Going further afield, cyclists can put their legs to the test in fifty, seventy, eighty-five and one hundred mile rides taking place over the summer.

The Pedal Power leaflet, which lists all planned cycle events, can be found at the Dolphin Centre, Town Hall, library and cycling related venues and a list of events can be found on the Town on the Move website (opens new window).

For further information on cycle events contact Oliver Lougheed at Darlington Council on (01325) 388652.

Please note - under 16s must be accompanied by an adult on the family cycle ride on 3 April 2005.
