Local Author Launches First Novel In Library
11/01/06 - DARLINGTON’S Crown Street library is supporting a local author by hosting the launch of her first novel.
Treading Water by Allison Agius tells the story of a woman trapped in an unhappy marriage who begins a powerful friendship with her new neighbour, which opens her up to new possibilities while threatening to destroy everything she clings onto.
Allison, who lives in Darlington, has always wanted to be a writer and has already had her self-help book, Hidden Secrets Buried Treasure, published but Treading Water is her first novel to hit the shelves.
Book lovers from around Darlington will get the chance to hear Allison read extracts from the book and buy a copy at its official launch at the library on Thursday 19th January from 6.30pm.
As well as running several businesses, mother-of-two Allison has written five novels in the last ten years.
Allison said: ‘I am very excited that the launch of my first published novel is going to be held at the library. The staff have been extremely supportive. My love of books and writing started at Darlington library when I was a child so it feels appropriate that I’m back here now as an author.
“I spent many happy hours in the warmth and quiet of the reference library reading, doing my homework. It was my sanctuary and when I become a mother I naturally enrolled my children. This is a dream come true”
The library has already bought copies of Treading Water for its popular reading group to use.
Allison is now working on her new novel that she hopes will be launched in 2007.
Doors of the library will close at 7pm for the book launch to begin. Light refreshments will be served and signed copies of the book will be available to buy.
