New Development Open To The Community

03/03/06 - A £4.5M complex, which is home to Darlington’s newest school, is throwing its doors open to the public.

Skerne Park Primary School welcomed hundreds of children back to a state-of-the-art new site this week.

The school forms part of a community development that also features adult learning facilities, a neighbourhood nursery, children’s centre, ICT suite, conference rooms and offices.

More than 300 pupils are now being taught at the school and dozens of children are enjoying the nursery, while other facilities have started to hold their first sessions.

The facilities are being made available to people in the Skerne Park area and throughout Darlington as a whole.

To raise awareness, the building is staging an open day on Friday, March 10, from 2pm onwards, with the whole community invited to drop in.

Chris McEwan, Darlington Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “Many people in the area will have been aware of this development, but not had the chance to see it in detail.

“This event lets everybody in the area take a good look round what is a fantastic building and think about taking advantage of the facilities.”
