Bop While You Shop

08/12/06 - CHRISTMAS shoppers in Darlington are being serenaded by local musicians as they pick up some last minute gifts.

The bands are playing on High Row courtesy of Darlington Council in association with Birse Civils Ltd, the contractors working on the Pedestrian Heart scheme.

A different band is playing every day in the run up to Christmas from 11am to 3pm.

The series of outside concerts started with the Blue Dixie jazz band on Friday December 8, and they will be playing again on Monday December 11.

On Saturday December 9 and Monday December 18, the Richmond Pipe and Drums will be providing the entertainment.

On Tuesday December 12, there will be an unusual musical set from Dennis Teeth and his musical saw and on Wednesday December 13 the Heritage Trio jazz band will be performing.

English country dance band, Dogwatch, will be performing on Friday December 15 and the musical trio Riverboat Days will round off the performances on Saturday December 16.

Lee Vasey, Darlington Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, said: “These local bands are really adding to the atmosphere in the town centre as Christmas gets closer and I look forward to hearing them all.”
