Christmas Shoppers Go Green

05/12/06 - SHOPPERS are being invited to have a green Christmas when they visit Darlington's Christingle Market this week.

Darlington Council’s Recycling Team will be at the special market on Thursday December 7 giving out advice to shoppers about recycling and how to be more environmentally-friendly.

Residents, who are part of the kerbside recycling scheme, will be able to pick up extra blue bags and green boxes and everyone will be able to talk to staff about composting and other green initiatives in Darlington.

Stephen Harker, Darlington Council’s Cabinet Member for Consumer and Environmental Services, said: “At Christmas we all produce a lot more rubbish and so it is an ideal time to recycle more and think about the energy we use.

“There are a lot of ways people can get involved and I hope shoppers will take this opportunity to talk to our staff about the difference they can make.”

Information about where to recycle in Darlington can also be found on the Council’s website .
