Residents Urged To Take A Stand
21/12/06 - DARLINGTON Council is looking for local heroes who have taken a stand against anti-social behaviour in their community.
The Home Office’s Anti-Social Behaviour Unit has launched its annual Taking a Stand Awards which recognise the extraordinary achievements of ordinary people.
The Awards are presented to individuals or groups in the community that have taken a stand against anti-social behaviour, whether through giving evidence at court or developing specific projects to tackle issues such as graffiti and litter.
Darlington Council is urging people in the Borough to nominate others who have made a difference, helped minimise the impact of anti-social behaviour and acted as an inspiration to the whole community.
Winners will receive £1,000 to help them do more to tackle anti-social behaviour.
John Williams, Leader of Darlington Council said: “Tackling anti-social behaviour remains a top priority both for the Council and its Community Safety partners.
“'These awards celebrate the bravery and courage of local people who have taken a stand against anti-social behaviour and that’s why the Council supports them.”
At the last awards, The Friends of Eastbourne Park received £1,000 for they dedication to improving the local area and an un-named resident was rewarded for helping to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in his neighbourhood.
