Sky's The Limit For Longfield's Star Achievers

22/11/06 - TWO teenagers who gained GCSEs in astronomy are among hundreds of students who will have their achievements honoured at a Darlington school this week.

Travis Bacon and Adam Laidlaw, both aged 14, will receive special awards at Longfield School’s annual presentation evening on Thursday, November 23.

The pair got their certificates despite only being in year nine, with the vast majority of students passing GCSEs two years later than them.

A host of other awards will be handed out on the night in a range of subjects, from special accolades to prizes for academic achievements.

Head teacher Keith Cotgrave said: “This has been yet another fantastic year for the school and our students have once again excelled themselves.

“The school gained its best ever GCSE results this year and much of that achievement was down to the dedication and hard work of the students. They have been a credit to themselves and the school, and it is only right that their efforts are recognised.”
