Africa Trip Captured On Video

06/06/07 - YOUNG people, heading on a trip of a lifetime to Africa, are set to receive digital video training so they can record their experiences.

The group of young people is traveling to Leostho in August to look at HIV/AIDS peer education schemes working in schools and the wider community.

When they return it is hoped they will share their experiences with other young people and community groups across Darlington.

The young people are fund-raising to pay for the trip and, with help from the Youth Service, have arranged digital video training so they can make short films, upload them onto the Internet and show them to other young people.

Chris McEwan, Darlington Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “By making these films the young people will be able to record their experiences and vividly show people back home what they see and hear on their trip.

“By putting these videos on the Internet, people all over the world will be able to see what Darlington’s young people have achieved.”

The group is still fund-raising to pay for the trip, and is appealing to businesses and community groups to support them.

Tickets are still available for a gala dinner is being held at Darlington Football Club on Friday June 29. The event, which costs £20 or £200 for a table, will include a three-course dinner, entertainment and an auction.
