Youth Groups Chance To Talk About Future

29/10/07 - ORGANISATIONS who provide activities for young people are invited to help plan the long-term future of youth initiatives in Darlington.

All local authorities in the country must compile a list of youth activities and events provided in their area by the voluntary, private and public sector.

Darlington’s list, or Youth Offer, must be completed by early 2008 and then young people will be asked what they think of what is being provided and what new activities they would like to see planned.

In order to find out what is already on offer, any group that provides activities for young people aged 13 to 19, is invited to an event on Friday November 9.

As well as helping compile the Youth Offer, groups will be able to suggest activities that could be provided in the future and find out how the Youth Offer will affect them.

The free event is taking place in the Dolphin Centre. There are two sessions – 10am to noon in Central Hall and 4.20pm to 6.30pm in the Seminar Room.

Chris McEwan, Darlington Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: “Darlington’s Youth Offer will help us ensure that the right services are being provided for young people in the right places.

“It will be a real partnership between the public, private and voluntary sector and I hope anyone interested in the provision of activities for young people will come along and have their say.”

To find out more or to confirm your attendance at one of the sessions call Joanne King on  (01325) 346816 or e-mail joanne.king@darlington.gov.uk

The Youth Offer is funded by Darlington’s Local Area Agreement and by a grant from the DfES.
