Town Crier likes to be beside the seaside

26/08/08 - DARLINGTON’S new town crier will welcome families to a town centre seaside event on Thursday.

Former sergeant major Peter Stemmer will be in Darlington town centre at noon to let everyone know about the Darlington by the Sea event in the Market Square.
The Market place will transformed into a traditional seaside resort, complete with beach between 11am and 4pm.
There will be a fairground, seaside photo booth, as well as street entertainment and sand sculptures.
From 5pm to 8pm there will be a beach party in the Market Square including a limbo contest and beach volley ball.
Councillor Andy Scott, Darlington Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Leisure, said: “The Darlington by the Sea event brings a traditional, British seaside resort into the heart of Darlington town centre.
“It is a fantastic day for all the family, with a beach for children to play in during the day and fun events and activities for young people later in the evening.”
Town crier Peter Stemmer will also be in the town centre on Saturday August 30.
