Warning Of Possible Delays For Drivers

08/08/08 - DRIVERS are being advised of possible delays as work gets underway to alleviate flooding problems in the Pierremont Crescent area of Darlington.

From Monday August 11 until the end of November, work to divert gas mains will be carried out on the pavement on the south side of Woodlands Road, close to the Denes’ tennis courts.

Occasionally there will be a need for traffic lights to be used on this stretch of road but it is hoped for the majority of the time, the work will be limited to the pavement.

From October until early January, there will also be work on Pierremont Crescent with different sections of the road closed over a 12 week period.

All work in the Woodland Road area will stop during December and January.

From February, for around 12 weeks, Northumbrian Water will start work to lay a replacement sewer down Woodlands Road.

This means traffic travelling on Woodlands Road, between Pierremont Crescent and the entrance to the Denes' tennis court, will be controlled by traffic lights or diversions.

There will be signs along all affected routes alerting drivers to possible delays.

David Lyonette, Darlington Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “We are aware that these important works by Northumbrian Water will cause delays to drivers.

“We urge people to be patient and, where possible, to try to find alternative routes. We have worked hard to ensure all roads will be open as usual during the busy Christmas period.”
