Carers' Week Comes To An End

13/06/08 - A CHURCH service is being held in Darlington on Sunday to mark the end of national Carers’ Week.

Throughout the week various events have been run by the Carers’ Support Service to celebrate carers’ work and give them a chance to meet other people in similar situations.

The theme of this year’s events was ‘carers can’t afford to be ill’ and all the activities focussed on carers’ health and emotional well-being.

As part of the celebrations, today (Friday) there will be a cookery demonstration with free samples, courtesy of Wiltshire Farm Foods, at Age Concern in Beaumont Street.

The demonstration, open to all carers and those they look after, takes place from 2pm to 4pm.

The week will end with a special carers’ church service at the United Reformed Church on Northgate at 10.45am.

Veronica Copeland, Darlington Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Service, said: “There are carers of all ages in Darlington looking after relatives and friends. These hard-working people do not get paid and many juggle their caring role with work, family, school and other responsibilities.

“Carers’ Week has helped raise awareness of carers’ important role and given them the opportunity to meet other carers and share their experiences.”
