Doorstep Advice Heads To Big Screen

27/06/08 - TRADING Standards Officers are heading to the cinema to give advice on avoiding doorstep crime.

Staff will be at the Odeon’s Senior Screen event in Darlington on Monday June 30 at 10.30am.
The Senior Screen is a season of recent and classic films for older people.

During the pre-screen refreshments, Trading Standards staff will be handing out action packs full of advice and information to try to stop elderly and vulnerable people becoming victims of doorstep crime.

The pack contains information on dealing with various scams, including doorstep sales; bogus callers; cowboy traders; distraction and sneak-in burglaries and junk mail.

As well as handing out the packs, the staff will answer any questions or concerns from film-goers.

Andy Scott, Darlington Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Leisure, said: “Sadly there are still criminals out there who prey on elderly and vulnerable people in our society.

“These packs give practical advice to people and I am grateful to the Odeon for allowing our staff to attend the Senior Screen event.”

The packs are available from Darlington Trading Standards at 11 Houndgate, Darlington Library, Age Concern and the Citizen’s Advice Bureau.

If you would like an Action Pack sent to you, or for more information, please contact Darlington Trading Standards on (01325) 388799.
