Firthhmoor School to re-open

11/06/08 - A DARLINGTON primary school which has been closed since before half term as a result of a major electrical fault, is due to re-open on July 7.

Firthmoor Primary School was closed to allow engineers to work on the complex wiring and supply problems, which were causing electrical failure at the school.
The children from the school have been educated in their normal class groups, by their teachers, at other primary schools around the Borough. They have been taken by bus each day to the other schools to ensure the disruption to their education was kept to a minimum.
Parents have been invited to a meeting at Maidendale House Community Centre on Firthmoor on Monday June 23 at 1.30pm when staff from Darlington Council and school governors will be there to discuss the electrical problems and the school’s re-opening.
Murray Rose, Director of Children’s Services at Darlington Council said: “The electrical problems were complex and serious, so we had to close the school to investigate them properly.
“That has now been done and the engineers are working hard to fix the problems so the school can re-open on July 7. We’re having a meeting with parents before then, to answer any questions they might have.
“I want to thank the schools across the Borough, which continue to provide temporary classroom space for the staff and pupils from Firthmoor. The staff and pupils from Firthmoor have also been fantastic, adapting well and getting on with things under difficult circumstances.”
Parents who cannot attend the meeting, but would like to speak to someone about the Firthmoor School closure, can contact Children’s Services at Darlington Council on (01325) 388806.
