Darlington Council would like residents to help identify the design features which they believe make the area distinctive.
Workshops are being held across the Borough to look at design features which make a village or neighbourhood distinctive, such as rooflines, chimneys, sash windows and building materials.
The Council hopes popular features can be reflected in the design of new developments.
Workshops, which will include a short walk around the area, will take place from 6pm to 8pm on:
• Wednesday July 2 at Sadberge Village Hall
• Thursday July 3 at Middleton St George Community Centre
• Tuesday July 8 at the Arts Centre, Vane Terrace, Darlington
• Thursday July 10 at Heighington Village Hall
To take part, all you need is an interest in the local area, its heritage and some knowledge of your neighbourhood.
The information from the workshops will be used by the Council’s Planning Department to create a draft Design Supplementary Planning Document, setting out detailed design guidance for new developments in the Borough.
This document, which the public will be able to comment on in November, will be used to assess the quality of design on all planning applications.
