Melting Pot Arts’ Funky Junk Orchestra has signed up to the Council’s Making Waste Work initiative, which aims to get everyone thinking about how much rubbish they throw away.
The orchestra works with community groups around the Borough – making instruments out of rubbish, creating original music and then performing.
Making Waste Work has stepped into sponsor new T-shirts for the orchestra so the reduce, reuse, recycle message will be seen every time they play.
There are tips on how you can reduce the amount you throw away on the Council’s website, along with information on recycling and ideas on how to reuse rubbish.
Nick Wallis, Darlington Council’s Cabinet Member for Sustainable Environment and Climate Change, said: “The ethos behind the Funky Junk Orchestra fits in perfectly with Making Waste Work.
“The band has been recycling items of rubbish and reusing them as musical instruments for years and I am delighted that they are helping us spread the reduce, reuse, recycle message.
”There are small changes we can all make to our lives to help combat climate change and the Funky Junk Orchestra prove that being greener can be fun.”
