The Dosh is a Darlington Council project which involves £465,000 being award to young people’s projects in the Borough over the next three years.
This year £155,000 will be distributed by young people to projects devised and run by young people with support from youth organisations.
The funding is awarded in two categories; small projects, under £2,000, and larger projects which need more than £2,000.
Since April this year, more than 30 small grants have been handed out and now all this year’s money allocated for smaller projects has been distributed.
Among the projects to benefit were the Darlington 21st Allstars, who were given £1,785 to travel to Mulheim in Germany for a football tournament and £500 was given to the Bump n Babi group to fund a farm trip for young parents and their children.
A group of young people from the Eastbourne Church of England Academy were given £250 to create an anti-drug presentation for younger children and Darlington’s YMCA was given funding for a beach clean.
Although there is no more funding this year for small project, there is still money available for schemes which need more than £2,000.
Chris McEwan, Darlington Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “The Dosh has been really successful and has attracted a lot of bids this year. A lot of smaller projects have got off the ground thanks to The Dosh and I am delighted that so many young people will benefit from the money.
“There is still money available this year projects, which need more than £2,000 to get off the ground.
“Any project, run by young people for young people, will be considered but there is a limited amount of money so people should get their ideas in as soon as possible.”
A group of young people meets regularly to will decide which grants are successful.
